I am currently working on something fun for my blog to celebrate the holidays! I’m asking my closest family and friends to guest post on my blog throughout the month of December listing some of their favorite things! I am a lover of all things list-y and so I thought it would be fun to read what makes others squeal with joy and maybe this will help to give you some inspiration to buy something for that hard-to-buy-for person in your life.
In honor of These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things, I am posting some of my Favorite Recipes for cozying up on the couch and pigging out. Since the weather has been cold, all I want to do is eat. I will be posting a few tried and true recipes I have made throughout the years here as well.
Oh and My Favorite Things is probably my favorite Christmas song from one of my favorite movies, The Sound Of Music” but for the holiday version, I love Kenny Rogers version. Christmas just isn’t Christmas in my home without Kenny or Dolly.
I love Dolly so much and I want to live in the Smoky Mountains. And play the banjo. I grew up with the sounds of Kenny and Dolly all around as my mom and grandma were huge fans.
But the Christmas album I most associate with my childhood would be John Denver.
I remember watching the John Denver Christmas Specials with my family when I was little and wanting to live in the mountains. I remember the first time I heard Aspenglow as an adult, I was pregnant with my youngest and I started crying. Well, the hormones may have had a part but it just brought me back to when I was little with such a rush of emotion.
These are a few of my favorite carbs.
I don’t actually remember where I got this recipe but it is so easy and kid- friendly and so darn good that it just doesn’t matter. Oh and it is cheap to make too, all good elements of a great recipe in my humble opinion.
1 Onion, chopped
1 Green Pepper, chopped
Mozzarella Cheese, lots of it
Grease a cookie sheet and preheat the oven 400. Spread all ingredients on the tortilla’s (you choose how you like to layer). Bake 8-9 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Crock pot Broccoli Cheese Soup
I don’t mean to brag but I made this puppy two years in a row for my church bazaar and it sold out before all the other soups.
But when you see how easy this is to make, you will realize that you too will be the envy of all in your tight circle. I mean all you do is dump everything in a crock pot and turn the power on. Seriously, that is it.
8 oz. of Velveeta ( I wanna fill you in on a little secret….I used both Velveeta and the Walmart generic brand for this and you know what? The Walmart brand is better. And lots cheaper.)
2 Cans Cream of Celery Soup
1 pint half and half
2-10 oz. chopped frozen broccoli…not thawed
Cube the cheese and put everything in the crock pot. Cook on low 4-6 hours. (I usually stop at 4.5 hours or so)
I serve this with sourdough bread and it is so good. I also heat up any leftovers the next day and put it on top of a baked potato so really this could be two meals in one.
There are many variations of the next recipe but it is so stinkin’ good that it just doesn’t matter how you do it because the combo is heavenly. Sweet and salty all in one.
(also known as Pretzel Crack)
1 bag of round pretzels (OKAY, put the bag of round pretzels down. I tried it with round pretzels and it failed miserably. We were licking the melted kisses of the cookie sheet. Yes. I said licked off the sheet. Doesn’t everyone do that? I find that the square checkerboard pretzels work the best)
1 bag of plain M and M’s
1 bag of plain Hershey kisses
Place the pretzels on a cookie sheet .I always grease the sheet with oil spray. Then put the kisses (take the wrappers off please) on the pretzel. Bake the pretzels and kisses in the oven at 200 degrees for 8 minutes to melt. Then as soon as you take it out, press an M and M into each kiss. Let it set on the counter overnight to set.
I would triple this recipe, personally. Oh and this is so much fun to make with the kids. I made these just last night and even my toddler helped.
Have a great first weekend of December!
