Four Ingredient Recipes- Wiener Winks

This recipe is a favorite from my youth and my brother is the one who reminded me of this gem a few months ago while we were talking on the phone. Our school cafeteria system had the best food when we were small. I grew up in rural Ohio in the 70's and 80's, back when the cafeteria ladies ( shout out to Mrs. Balnoschan....our "second mom" in high school) got to the kitchens at 7 am to actually cook the food not just heat it up in the microwave. ( atleast that's what they do in the schools here so if they still cook in yours, I would love to hear about it!) Anyhoo, the food was really good - taco bowl (Frito's, lettuce, ground seasoned beef, cheese...whats not to love?), peanut butter bars (hand made and better than Reese's) and wiener winks (the bread looks like it is winking at you, hence the name) to name a few. Oh sweet baby ruth.....

So here is my one of my fave childhood recipes that neither of my children like. I know. What is not to like about bread, cheese and a hot dog? They like all of these things separately but not together. Go figure.

1- white bread
2- hot dogs
3- cheese slices
4- margarine

OK so let me tell you- do not try to make this low fat. It won't work. I have tried with whole wheat bread, 40 calorie hot dogs and the like. If you are gonna "go big" do it all the way and this is one recipe to do it all the way with....wow, I did not mean to sound dirty...sorry.

Spray a cookie sheet with Pam and preheat the oven to 350. Butter (I use margarine and it is just as good) both sides one piece of bread, place the cheese on one side of the bread then the hot dog. Curve the bread up over the hot dog and cheese like a taco and stick a toothpick in to hold; I find that I need to use two or three toothpicks to get this to hold. Repeat with as many wiener winks as you want to make, place on cookie sheet and bake for 20-30 minutes (around 20 minutes I check on them), or until bread is brown and crispy.
