My Pinterest Top 7 aka How Pinterest Changed My Life

Hello there, how was your weekend? Ours? Eh.....

My oldest came down with strep and missed out on her last Field Day at her elementary since she is moving on to middle school (or junior high, as I remember it being called) next year as well as missing the last dance at school and one of the biggest soccer games of the season.
And it was gorgeous out....
We snuggled in the family room with the windows open watching the breeze come through and just heaved a big ole' sigh.
Personally, I dont know what I was more frustrated with...the fact that she came down with strep.
In June.

Or the comment she made to me when begging and pleading to go to school with a 102 fever on Field Day, "but mom, everyone comes to school sick."

Yes lovely, and thats why you have strep on Field Day.

:(

Sooooo there's this faboo website called Pinterest and its full of cool ideas, recipes, things you must do to your home to make it livable......

wait, you have heard of it?

Oh.

Huh.....

Wonder how that got out......

We all know I love me some Pinterest.
Its Pintastic.
Its Pindescribable.
It will be my all time fave website Pindefinitely......

But I do have to say it is a bit overwhelming at times.
I can pin and pin and pin for eternity but then what do I do with all these pins? They sit there staring at me, taunting me, mocking me......saying "whatcha gonna do with me now that ya got me in this nifty little folder??? huh huh huh?????"........

OK I might be in need of a therapist, but hey, who isn't.......

The problem I tend to have, and let me know if this is a prob you have as well, is that it gets to be a little too much. I actually have to make sure I go to Pinterest to go back and check out everything I have pinned to see if there are recipes I should write down or projects I would like to create. Yes, I am a little over organized but I need to do this because I could add stuff to my Pinterest for a year and never again grace that little folder because I didn't make the time to go and actually put to use the useful tips that I wanted to use in the first place.

So here are a few Pinterest inspired projects, recipes and tips I have used since I started using Pinterest that I love and couldn't live without........therefore you need to know about them so you can't live without them either! And I have included all the details on this blog so if you don't subscribe to Pinterest ( I won't judge!) you can get the tips here! Oh and just so ya know, most of these are recipes.

'Cuz I was hungry when I composed this.

See this??

This is the best cornbread you will ever eat.

Hands down.

I made this a few weeks ago to eat with chili and my four year old loved this more than her brownie for dessert.

Yep.

Its that good. The big secret? Yellow cake mix blended in with the corn bread mix! This pin came from the blog The Sisters Dish, so take a gander over there 'cuz usually where there is one good recipe, there is bound to be lots more.

Oh and the even better part?
Four ingredient recipe and very inexpensive ingredients!
Costs less than a dollar to make!

Boston Market Cornbread

- 1 box of Jiffy cornbread mix
- 1 box of Jiffy yellow cake mix

Mix both boxes according to directions, and combine the batter. You can use a large mixing bowl and combine both boxes of mix together and add the other ingredients all at once. Spread into an 8x8 pan, greased.  Bake at 350 degrees until done, about 30 minutes.

Ok so if you like Rice Krispie Treats, you are gonna love these bad boys....
Think Rice Krispie Treats tricked out with....wait for it......Oreos.
Awww yeahhhhhh......

This lovely recipe came from the genius over at Picky Palate and they are soo good. They lasted one day in my home and they are so easy to make.

Oreo Krispies

- 1 package of Oreos
- 5 C. of large marshmallows
- 4 Tbsp. butter ( I used margarine and they were still great)

Its says to put Oreos in your food processor and since I am the food processor around here (meaning I don't have one), I put the Oreos into a ziploc bag and smashed the h@#$ out of them with a rolling pin. Great aggression therapy or even better, give it to the kids to do....which is what I did. They love helping in the kitchen.  Get the oreos in smallish crumbs and set aside. Meanwhile, melt the margarine and mallows in a bowl in the microwave, about 1.5- 2 minutes. Remove from microwave and add oreo crumbs. Grease a 9x13 pan ; spread the oreo mixture into the pan. It says to let sit for 10 mins....yeah, they didn't even make it five minutes here.  Use your own judgement. I was ready to eat it out of the bowl.......

I love Febreeze but it is kinda pricey, no?
So here is a knockoff recipe that I have been using for almost a year now and it is great!

This was found on Homemade Mama's blog:

Homemade Febreeze

- 2 C. warm water
- 1/4 C. liquid fabric softener
- 1 tsp. baking soda

Put the above into an empty spray bottle and shake to mix. Use as needed!

So the next one is from my blog! Actually, I saw the next idea on Pinterest but it was cited back to "uploaded by user", meaning someone didn't link it to the correct source. But I have a feeling this idea is one of those Farm Wives tales kind of thing. And this really works too.....

To get rid of those pesky marks in the carpet after you move furniture, just place an ice cube (or cubes depending how wide the indentation) on the indentation and let sit until it melts. I had a really deep mark in our family room after moving a toy box and within a day it was gone! We also had some marks in our bedroom carpet after we moved our bed but it took several tries to get rid of the mark but still, no money spent for an easy solution!

The next recipe? Yeah, lets say they put those Valentines boxes of candy to shaaaaaammme. I made the following for Vday this year and it was a hit but you could totally make these year round!

This recipe comes from one of my fave bloggers who, btw, I found via Pinterest! Her name is Emily and you can check her out over at 52 Mantels.

Kiss My Pie

- 2 refrigerated pie crusts
-24 Hershey kisses
- 1 Tbsp. melted margarine
-1-2 spoonfuls sugar ( I actually forgot this and it was still wonderful!)
- powdered sugar for dusting

This is how I did it, Emily did it a little diff. If you want to see how she did it, click the above link!
Bring the pie crust up to a warmer temp after bringing out of fridge. Then lay it out flat and cut the rounded edges off a little to make it more of a square. Cut the crust into even squares. On each square, place a chocolate kiss then gather up the sides and pinch at the top. Melt the margarine and brush on each pie then add the sugar (I totally skipped this by accident and they were still great.....). Bake at 450 for 12 minutes and sprinkle powdered sugar on top while warm. Oh and eat these while warm!!

OK last one and of course it is food related but this will change your life.
 I promise.

So I have seen this idea all over Pinterest lately and pinned it twice from two different bloggers but chose this one because her tutorial is easy and I love me southern bloggers, so she won the coin toss. :)

You can go visit Jessica's tutorial here. This one will be a little hard for me to illustrate here but I will give it a shot. But really, go to her site because she has nice step by step pictures.

I used her tutorial Memorial Day weekend and I said out loud, "OK so we are eatin' watermelon every week now".

Why the big deal? Have you ever cut watermelon?

Its not easy and I always feel like I am wasting so much of it when cutting it or getting the pale pink parts that don't have flavor. This is perfect and it only took me less than 5 minutes to cut up a HUGE melon.

Now that I think about it, just go here and watch the tutorial. I can't do it justice and it is life changing.

OK, I lied.
I have one more.
Trust me, you will thank me.
Or curse me if you happen to be on a diet.
But this is corn so its not bad for you, right?!

So I hate cooking corn on the cob.
There is nothing worse than having a boiling cauldron o' water on your stove a cookin' away when it is 90 degrees outside and you have a kitchen full of peeps waiting for over an hour for said corn.
Oh wait, that might only be a Kari problem not a real life problem.

Anyway, I searched one day on Pinterest "an easy way to cook corn on cob" on their search engine and this bloggers post came up:

If you go to my Pinterest pins, you will see that I pinned the wrong blogger. The above is the blogger I actually got the recipe from. Just want to make sure credit is going to the right person. :)

This is too good to be true but it really is true and its too good.
Wait, I am confused.....

Go to the blog here for all the details but here is the run down in a nut shell.
You won't even need a piece of paper.
Its that easy and like the watermelon above, it too is life changing.

1) Go to your local market or roadside stand and by as many ears of sweet corn as you would like.

2) Preheat your oven to 350.

3) Lay said corn on a cookie sheet. Do not take the husk off. Do nothing but dust the dirt off the corn and place it on the sheet.

4) Bake in oven for 25-30 minutes.

5) Put butter, salt and pepp on and eat.

Yep.
And amazeballs at how good this is.
I saw one pinner complain how it was too hot to handle after taking out of oven.
Really??
Seriously???
Be happy peeps. It is the easiest recipe known to man and life changing, so what if your hand gets a little hot.
I handled four ears of hot corn about 5 minutes after I took it out of the oven and I lived to tell about it and so will you.

Alright, now I am done!
I pretty much gave you the secrets to a pretty amazing summer party.
Now I expect an invite.
I will bring the booze and a smile.

Happy Summer!

Love each and every one of these pins! I would easily gain 20 lbs if I made every delicious, mouthwatering dessert I "pinned"! I really had to LOL, though, at whoever said corn coming out of the oven was too hot to handle... Really, so corn just out of boilingwater isn't? ;)
Thanks for sharing this at Hooking Up w/ HOH!
