Ideal Date Night; Mmm Cheese Fries- NaBloPoMo # 7

Today’s prompt- Describe your ideal date night
This is funny because I was just talking to one of my dear friends Sue over at Diapers or Wine about going to dinner alone and I said something like, I would go to Burger King with him alone just to get a quiet meal and time to talk about something other than the kids.
Or laundry.
Or the bills.
Or how our strange neighbor sits in their car for 10 minutes and waves to their house.
Don’t worry, they don’t read the blog.

I can’t speak for my husband but I will.
An ideal date night for the two of us would involve the following:

– a sitter who we can depend on

– two healthy kids

– money. That comes in handy.

– somewhere to eat that doesn’t have screaming kids.

– conversation that doesn’t involve our home life.

– food that I don’t have to count calories on my fitness app

– walking around somewhere where it is warm. (For 9 months out of the year, that is usually Target for us)

We like to live it up big here.
Date night for us is usually Applebee’s, followed by a stop at Target to pick up something for the 7th grader for a school project followed by something the preschooler needs to bring for snack. Then off to Starbucks (the most lavish part of the date) to get our hot chocolate. Then off to the grocery store.
Because any parent in America will tell you this:

It is a luxury to go to the grocery store.
Without kids.
At 10 at night.
Without other people’s kids too.

It is heavenly.
Try it.
Just not on our date night.

Would we love to go to a fancy restaurant in the city and dance the night away?
Of course!
But we did that.
When we were in our 20’s.
And someday we will get to do that again.
But for now?
We will take the time we get.
Holding hands, looking into each others eyes and planning our future.
Over our 2 for $20 specials.

LOLZ I always ha-ha it up with the grocery store checkout ladies when I'm there without kids. They think it's awesome. We actually have TWO nights away planned for this month, which is about 2 more than we've had in the past 2 years. I think it might even beat our usual Target dates (yep, us, too.)

B- OOh Chipotle, thats another one we love to go to on date night. Or a random Wednesday. Or for lunch……

Shannon- So do we. Don't we need some more lightbulbs, hon???

Jeanette- GET OUT! 2 date nights?? You are livin' on the edge, girl!

Marianne- I knew you would appreciate this. Not as good as a brownie batter donut but still….

I love this so, so, so much! And you are too kind with the link:) Seriously, i am inspired to find a way for the husband and i to get out every other week, even just for an hour – coffee and dessert, McDonalds, Taco Bell…something. You are awesome as always!!!

I love this post! Going to the grocery store, by yourselves, no kids=bliss. The new normal.
Would you like to submit to my website, Great Moments in Parenting? It's a new idea, and "open blog" where anyone can submit their best and worst parenting moments in short posts. (We link back to blogs too.) Love to have that section about going to the grocery story by yourselves at 10PM. That's a perfect parenting moment!

Totally agree. Date night means no talking about anything to do with the kids or the house or any daily normal crap we deal with. Sometimes our best date nights are spent with takeout, a movie, our couch and a kid free house (thank goodness for family to pawn children off to).
