A Grace Full Life: Netflix Is Taking Me Back. AND Giving You A Subscription. TUBULAR.

4.17.2014

Netflix Is Taking Me Back. AND Giving You A Subscription. TUBULAR.

I loved the 80s.
And the 90s for that matter.
Even though I was working full time and being an official adult most of the 90s.
It takes me back to a time when I could throw down jams.
While wearing leg warmers.
And drinking Crystal Pepsi.

Me in 1987. Just wait, the hair gets bigger in the 90s.

So when I saw that Netflix added some totally gnarly movies and TV shows to its April lineup?
I totally had a cow.
Because that is like wicked gnarly to the max.
Fer sure.

Inviting my girls into the time period that my hubs and I grew up and did most of the best television and movie watching, like ever, is kind of exciting.
And realitysmackingyouintheface inducing.
HOW HAS IT BEEN 27 YEARS SINCE DIRTY DANCING WAS IN THE THEATER????
Oh yeah?
22 years ago Saved By The Bell....ENDED.

Let that sink in.

Told ya. 1992. BIGGER.
One title that is my 14 year old daughter's favorite from the 80's is Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
She has been watching that with us since she was 5.
Ear muffs during the airport scene.

This summer, I plan to have a John Hughes movie night with her and her friends.
I want to introduce them to the likes of Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club and the list goes on and on.

My six year old loves classics like the Smurfs, Curious George and Strawberry Shortcake.
I totally missed the bus on Strawberry Shortcake.
It came out when I was in the transitional phase of being "too cool" for cartoons.
Then secretly binge watching them when no one was looking.
WHAT?

Now that you have been patiently wading through my tubular vocab, you will be rewarded.
I know you totally want a free three month subscription to Netflix!!!!

Enter below to win a three month subscription code to Netflix so you can binge watch Strawberry Shortcake too!

  1. My kids went on a Saved By The Bell binge a while back. I just couldn't help thinking, "I don't know what I ever saw in you, A.C. Slater." I, however, never doubted my love for Johnny in Dirty Dancing.

  2. I feel guilty watching Saved By The Bell now, knowing that Jesse made life decisions that led her to become a stripper in Showgirls.

  4. I don't think anyone is too young for John Hughes, right? Popping popcorn :)

  5. My favorite is probably still Pretty in Pink... or maybe The Breakfast Club. Anything John Hughes, I guess! :)

  6. Pretty in Pink was my all-time fav! To this day, whenever I make eggs, I think, "Since when do you not like eggs?" "Since about birth."

Also ... I heard that they're making a movie about Jem. I don't remember much about that show except that my dad insisted that Jem's boyfriend looked like a drug dealer, and so I should stick with Ken and Barbie.

  10. We are slowly but surely introducing our kids to all the classics. Our youngest LOVES He-Man - he can quote the opening sequence perfectly. Our oldest watched Footloose (sidenote - how HOT was Kevin Bacon back in the day???) and he really liked it. Shoot, even the youngest liked it! We ended up buying the soundtrack that same night and it is fun to watch them re-enact the dance scene. Anyhoo...thanks for this chance!

  11. We just introduced our boys to Footloose. It was a real eye-opener for our oldest to see kids having fun that didn't involve electronics. :) Our youngest loved dancing. We bought the soundtrack that same night and it is hilarious watching him start tapping his foot to the music and trying to dance.
We also shared He-Man with them not too long ago. Good stuff!

  12. Ferris Bueller's Day Off- probably my top 80's fav!
