My All Time Favorite Movie

If you haven’t guessed it already, the theme this month is all things the 80’s! Woohoo! I loved this decade probably more than most because this was my coming of age decade. This is the decade when I got a perm for the first time, learned to drive, had my first kiss, got a boyfriend, got my period, learned to cook, and got my first (of many) jobs.

Basically, it was a time when I learned who I was and what I wanted to be, although I feel like I am still figuring that out at age forty. One of my all-time favorite movies came out in 1985 and I love it to this day just as much as I did the first time I saw it.

The Color Purple

Love. This. Movie.

There are so many things about this movie that are wonderful, beautiful, touching, educational….the list goes on and on.

My top three favorite sobs (and I mean sob) or as Oprah says “the ugly cry” moments are:

1) when Shug and Celie discover the missing letters

2) When Shug Avery walks into the church where her daddy is the preacher and sings “God Is Tryin’ To Tell You Something”

3) When Celie reunites with her family after years of being kept apart

Oh my goodness, I look like someone died when the credits start rolling.
My eyes are red.
My nose is running.
I am breathing heavy.
And I can’t control it. I have tried to will myself to not cry while watching this movie (especially when my husband and children are around) and I cannot do it.

So if you are in need of a good cry and have about two hours to spare, take a look-see at this great movie. You won’t regret it.

I love to write about my family, John Hughes, tacos and Bruce Hornsby. Not necessarily in that order.
